Wow, we are back!! Our school is filled with life and energy again! It’s been such a pleasure to see all the reconnection happening. The first few days of school often tend to feel a little busy and unsettled, and I think this year we are feeling it even a little more as we return from a pandemic year of learning. I’m happy to report that things are already starting to feel more calm today as we begin to settle into a new routine.

Just a quick reminder about Meet the Teacher next Tuesday, September 14 from 6:00- 8:00. If you would like to have a quick “meet and greet” conversation with any of the teachers in-person, you can make an appointment through the parent portal. If you need assistance please call the school at 204-388- 9761. A slideshow introduction to our teachers (and staff) is also attached at the end of this message if you’d prefer to “meet” them that way.

Extra-curricular sports and clubs will be starting up over the next few weeks so we encourage students to keep their eye on the daily announcements for opportunities to participate in school activities. Announcements are posted daily in period 1 classes and also can be viewed throughout the day in the hub, learning commons, and on the NHS website.

For those who are not yet aware, the government has identified September 30 as a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day of observance advances reconciliation and allows Manitobans to reflect on residential school experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit. Schools will be closed and no classes will be held that day.

Today wraps up any course changes to student schedules. Please contact Deanna Wiebe at dwiebe@hsd.ca if you feel there is an error in your student’s schedule. Just a reminder that our school day begins at 9:00 and ends at 3:40 with lunch running from 12:30 – 1:20.

We have had a fabulous start to the year and the students seem genuinely happy to be back. There is such a positive vibe in the building and I am so thankful that I work in such an awesome place! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year. There is still a lot of uncertainty as to how the school year will unfold but, working together, I know it will be a success.

Cheers,
