The month of September flew by, and now, with fall in full swing, we embrace the crisp air and the changing colors. Let’s hope a few warm days are still ahead! October is a month of reflection, gratitude, and community, and we have much to be thankful for at NHS.
Our soccer, volleyball, and brand-new hockey programs are in full swing, along with the many clubs that make NHS such a dynamic place to learn and grow. A special thanks goes out to our dedicated teachers and community volunteers who make these activities possible.
Our morning snack program is also back up and running! Students can enjoy healthy snacks every Monday and Friday morning, thanks to our incredible parent volunteers and a generous grant from the Child Nutrition Council.
I am particularly grateful for the energy and enthusiasm of our student leadership team. Their commitment to promoting school spirit and fostering a sense of community is truly inspiring. I encourage you to follow us on Instagram to stay updated on all upcoming events and activities.
Personally, I am thankful for the amazing students, staff, and families at NHS. Being your principal is an honor, and I look forward to a productive and engaging year ahead.
A Few Reminders and Updates
Punctuality Matters
We’ve noticed an increase in the number of students arriving late to class. Please be aware that if a student is not in class when attendance is taken, they will be marked absent. Students arriving late need to sign in at the office and get a late slip to have their absence corrected to a late. A late arrival is considered 3-5 minutes after the designated start time.
If a student arrives more than halfway through the class, even with a late slip, they will be marked absent. If the tardiness is due to an appointment or excused absence, please notify the school by phone, email, or through the parent portal.
We will be more diligent in tracking late arrivals, especially those arriving 10 minutes or more past the start time, and will reach out to parents as necessary.
Grad Meeting for Grade 12 Parents
Grad 2024 is set for Wednesday, June 25, 2025. To kick off the planning process, NHS will be hosting a Grade 12 parent meeting on Wednesday, October 16, at 7:00 PM. We’ll provide an overview of important dates and events, and we’ll establish a parent grad committee. If you are unable to attend, notes will be shared the following day.
Grade 12 students will also have a grad meeting that same day at 11:45 AM.
Interim Progress Reports
In our ongoing effort to keep parents informed of their student’s progress, we will be issuing interim progress reports on October 15 for students who are struggling to meet course expectations or whose course credit is in jeopardy.
Students demonstrating basic, good, or excellent progress will not receive an interim report. However, parents are always welcome to contact teachers directly to check on their child’s performance. Report cards for all students will be issued on Monday, November 18.
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are scheduled for October 29. If your child was absent on picture day or would like to have their photo retaken, this is their chance. Even if no photos are being purchased, we ask that all students have their picture taken for school records and the yearbook. No appointments are necessary.
