Time flies when you’re having fun! At least that is how we feel! Just like that we have less than 2 months of school left, yet so much to accomplish and so much to do. Students are encouraged to stay focused and finish the school year strong – attend all their classes, give learning their full attention, and talk to teachers about progress or concerns if there are any. April was another busy month for staff and students at NHS. We want to make sure we finish the year strong!
A huge thank you goes out to all our students and staff for all their dedication in putting our Matilda the Musical together! Our band students will be heading to Moose Jaw May 13-15, once again showcasing all the hard work they have put in over the year. Showcase events like these serve as a culmination of all their efforts over the year in music, drama and band and being able to perform for others! We will continue to finish the year with all our athletic programming that also includes baseball and track and field.
May is also an especially very busy time for us as a school staff as we start to plan for the transition to the next school year. We collaboratively start to revisit, develop and set new goals and plans for 2025-2026 while also finalizing staffing. Course selection for next year went smoothly and is now complete. We will now start working on our timetable for next year and then begin creating student schedules.
Here are a few things of note;
Grade 12 Provincial Exam Dates
ELA: May 26-29
Essential Math: June 11
Applied Math: June 12
Yearbooks
2024-25 yearbooks can now be pre-ordered at the school office. They are $45 and we accept cash or cheques made out to Niverville High School. Yearbook fees will not be added to the student portal. Yearbooks are expected to arrive by the end of June.
Important Yearbook Note: We are also in the process of reviewing whether to continue with a yearbook next year as student interest has waned over the years. If this is something you feel strongly about, please email me at pgrosskopf@hsd.ca.
Asian Heritage Month (May 14-16)
Our Student Action Group has planned a variety of educational and interactive activities throughout the month of May to increase students’ knowledge of Asian cultures. The various events will highlight the significance of Asian Heritage Month and raise awareness about issues affecting Asian communities, such as racism, discrimination, and stereotypes. This student-led initiative also empowers students to become active agents of change and advocates for diversity and inclusion.
School Volunteer & Coaching Checks
As we plan for next year, we highly encourage our parents who are wanting to volunteer or coach to get all their necessary checks completed and submitted to NHS by the end of June. By doing these checks now our volunteers can be ready to go for September.
