Dear NHS Families and Students,

Spring has arrived, and with it comes a sense of renewal, energy, and growth.

As we head into Spring Break, we hope that this time will provide your family with an opportunity to rest, recharge, and reconnect. These pauses in the school year are important. They allow students to reflect on their progress, reset routines, and prepare for the final stretch ahead.

At NHS, we often talk about finishing strong, and that starts now. With just a few months remaining in the school year, April is a time to refocus, set goals, and move forward with purpose.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s learning journey.

Celebrating Community Connections

Before the break, we had a fantastic opportunity to strengthen relationships between our students and the RCMP through a day of connection and learning, including time spent together at a hockey game.

These experiences matter. They:

  • Build trust between students and community partners
  • Help students see positive role models in our community
  • Create meaningful conversations around safety, respect, and belonging

We are grateful to our RCMP partners for investing time in our students and helping us continue to build a strong, connected community.

Internet Safety & Awareness – ICE Presentations

We are committed to supporting students not only academically, but also in navigating the complex digital world they are part of every day.

The RCMP Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit will be presenting sessions at NHS focused on internet safety, social media awareness, and responsible digital decision-making.

Presentation Schedule

April 8

  • 9:00–10:15 a.m. – Grade 9 students
  • 10:30–11:45 a.m. – Grade 8 students (NMS & Bothwell)

April 9

  • 9:00–10:15 a.m. – Grade 10 students
  • 10:30–11:45 a.m. – Grade 11 students

What Students Will Learn

These sessions are designed to help students better understand:

  • Safe use of social media platforms
  • Risks and consequences of online behaviour
  • The emotional and mental health impact of digital interactions
  • Online bullying and responsible communication
  • The long-term impact of digital footprints
  • Legal considerations related to online activity
  • Strategies to make informed, safe decisions online

These are incredibly valuable conversations. They encourage students to think critically about their online presence and the choices they make.

Some students may need time to process or debrief after these sessions. Our CARE team is available to support students who may have questions or need additional guidance.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Learning, Growth & Looking Ahead

Report Cards – April 17

Report cards will be available on Friday, April 17 through the Parent Portal.

This is another important opportunity to:

  • Celebrate growth and progress
  • Reflect on learning habits
  • Set goals for the final months of the school year

As always, we encourage families to connect with teachers if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress.

Parent-Teacher Conferences – April 23

Our Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on:

Thursday, April 23 | 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.

These conversations are one of the most valuable ways we can work together to support students.

They provide:

  • Clear communication between home and school
  • Insight into student strengths and areas for growth
  • Opportunities to set shared goals
  • Early support when challenges arise

Your involvement makes a difference, and we strongly encourage all families to take part.

Course Selection for 2026–2027

Planning for next year is already underway.

  • Course Presentations (Grades 9–11): April 13–16
  • Course Selection Opens: April 20
