Dear NHS Families and Students,
It’s hard to believe, we are entering the final stretch of the school year.
As we move through May, there is a real sense of momentum in our building. There is still so much to accomplish, and this is a time where focus, effort, and consistency matter more than ever. We encourage all students to stay engaged, attend regularly, and continue communicating with their teachers.
Finishing strong doesn’t happen by accident, it happens through daily habits, perseverance, and support from both school and home. Thank you for being such important partners in this work.
Celebrating a Busy and Vibrant Spring
April was filled with incredible moments at NHS. From our school musical, Shrek the Musical JR, to performances, presentations, and classroom learning, it was a powerful reminder of the talent, creativity, and commitment of our students and staff.
Looking ahead, May continues that momentum:
- Our Grade 9 band students will travel to Moose Jaw, showcasing their learning and representing NHS with pride
- Our athletic programs continue with lacrosse, baseball and track & field
- Our student leadership groups continue to create meaningful opportunities for engagement and inclusion
These experiences matter, they build confidence, connection, and pride in our school community.
Asian Heritage Month
On May 7–8, our school will recognize Asian Heritage Month through student-led activities and learning opportunities.
These events are an important part of building:
- Awareness and understanding
- Respect for diverse cultures and perspectives
- A more inclusive and welcoming school community
We are proud of our students for leading this work and helping make NHS a place where everyone belongs.
A Focus on Grade 12s
For our Grade 12 students, this is a significant and exciting time. Graduation is quickly approaching, and with it comes important milestones, celebrations, and responsibilities.
Families can support their graduates by helping them:
- Stay organized and prepared for exams
- Attend all remaining classes and assessments
- Balance celebrations with responsibilities
We are proud of our graduates and look forward to celebrating with them in June.
Looking Ahead: June is Critical
As shared in previous newsletters, the month of June is essential for all students.
We want to again emphasize the importance of not booking family trips or absences during final assessments and provincial exams.
Why This Matters
- Final assessments are mandatory and cannot be replicated easily or fairly
- Missing exams can impact final marks, credit completion, and graduation eligibility
- Rescheduling creates inequity and significant challenges in a growing school
- These expectations prepare students for post-secondary and workplace realities
We deeply appreciate your support in planning ahead and ensuring students are present for these important dates.

You can support your child by:
- Encouraging consistent attendance

- Reaching out to teachers early if support is needed
Our staff are here to help, and we welcome your communication at any time.
A Final Thought
May is about momentum and mindset.
The habits students build now – showing up, staying focused, asking for help – will carry them through the end of the year and beyond. Together, we can ensure every student finishes the year feeling proud of what they’ve accomplished.
Thank you for your continued trust, support, and partnership.
Let’s finish strong, together.
Yours in education,
Paul Grosskopf Holly Anderson
