We all continue to navigate our way through an ever-changing situation and I am proud to see our NHS students, families, and staff taking steps every day to keep each other safe and healthy. We appreciate your continued use of the Covid-19 self-screening tool and that students are staying home when they are sick. Schools continue to be safe in spite of rising case numbers throughout the province. Although our community has moved into the “critical red zone”, I am pleased that our grade 9-12 students are able to continue attending school on the every other day schedule and that things are remaining status quo for now. If your student has been directed by Public Health to isolate at home because they, or a family member, are ill, you can let the school know and we will put a learning plan in place while they are away.  I extend my thoughts and best wishes to anyone who is personally experiencing the impact of Covid-19.

In a recent school survey, 80% of our students reported that learning is going fairly well for them this year, all things considered. They obviously miss their friends, wish they could  participate in their favorite activities, and even miss simple things like pizza day. On a positive note, lockers are now available to students (in a limited capacity) starting this week. Details of the NHS Covid Locker Plan are listed below.  A “return to play plan” for volleyball is also in motion, but again, in a limited capacity until the “red” restrictions have been lifted.

I do want to take this opportunity to remind families that It is very important for students to stay on track with their at-home-learning. Some students are reporting that they are actively participating in remote learning, while others are finding it difficult to be self-motivated and keep up with the day-to-day work. We are working hard to support all our students, but recognize that remote learning certainly has its challenges. If you, or your student, has any concerns please contact the school so we can assist you. Some tips and tricks for remote learning are included below.
