March has come “in like a lamb” so I guess that means it will go “out like a lion”? I hope not but I sure have been enjoying the sunshine these past few days. The days are getting longer, time seems to be flying by, and before we know it, it will be Spring Break!

With spring on the horizon we are in full planning mode for Grad 2022 as well as Grade 9 Orientation for our new incoming students. It’s a busy time of year as we buckle down to finish the year off strong, and also begin planning for next year all at the same time.

We are looking forward to actively engaging in the Manitoba Indigenous Education Pilot Program this month in an effort to promote cultural awareness and acknowledge the fundamental contributions that the Indigenous people have made to the formation of Canada. We have invited elders and knowledge keepers from Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation to our school to share their stories and experiences with us, and are excited at this opportunity to learn and to develop a relationship with this community. We will also be hosting an event called The Gathering of Friends on March 24th, where our grade 9 and 10 students, along with our Student Action Group, will have a unique opportunity to participate in a number of presentations that celebrate the values, culture and history of the Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation. This pilot project is a significant step in the journey towards reconciliation and we are proud to be part of this important work.
