Hello NHS families,

I hope this NHS News email finds you well. Here are a few highlights from the past few weeks and some upcoming events and dates to be aware of.

Congratulations to our varsity volleyball teams on hosting a successful home tournament this past weekend. A big shout out to Ron Limpright and Richard Toews for their organizing efforts and to the girls’ team for their first place finish. Kudos to the boys who also played strong but lost in the semi-final game. Go Panthers Go!

We are excited with all the learning that is happening throughout the building and to see students venturing off on learning trips to various places. A few of our grade 10 interdisciplinary classes visited the Assiniboine Zoo while the others went to Fort Whyte. Our grade 11 and 12 essential math classes had some hands-on budgeting experiences at big box stores and the Birchwood Automall. Our grade 12 Global Issues and History of Western Civilization classes joined forces and visited the Human Rights Museum. More learning trips are being planned for November and it’s great to have our students engage in these experiential opportunities.

Our school, with the help of Relish Branding Inc., has produced some informational materials about Project-Based Learning. Check out our video and infographic pages on our school website! https://nhs.hsd.ca/project-based-learning/

Term one report cards will be issued on Monday, November 21 through the parent portal. Please contact the school office if you have any issues accessing the file. We will be holding a Showcase of Learning on December 1, which will provide you with an opportunity to see the learning that your child does on a daily basis and to celebrate various accomplishments that have been made so far in the year. More information will be sent out closer to the event. We will not be scheduling a dedicated evening to parent-teacher conferences but you are encouraged to email or call your child’s teacher at any point during the year to discuss their progress.

Our PAC has been working hard to organize some breakfast opportunities for our students along with planning a few fundraisers. Please see the attached info regarding their fundraiser launch and stay tuned for more breakfast program information in the coming weeks. Thanks to all those parents who volunteer and support the work of this group.
