It’s November! Crazy. Less than 8 weeks until Christmas. Anyone else just wish time would slow down a bit? We are currently in the midst of spirit week and it’s been fun to see students dressing up and having fun with the various themes. Everyone seems to love a good old fashioned pajama day, even in high school! We also have our fall Showcase of Learning happening tomorrow evening from 5:30-8:00 and hope to see you there. The schedule is attached for your reference.

As you are aware, the EAs in our school division have commenced strike action. We have been in communication with families who are directly affected by the strike and want to assure everyone that we will continue to do our best to provide quality education and maintain a safe learning environment for all students. We will have limited supervision during the lunch hour so we will be closing the upstairs classrooms and asking that all students have their lunch on the main floor. Our Educational Assistants are an essential part of our school community, providing support to students and teachers in numerous ways. We appreciate and value the work of our EAs and we look forward to a quick settlement. We welcome questions or concerns you may have and encourage you to contact us at any time.

Things to note:

Showcase of Learning – TOMORROW!

Come check out what your student has been learning over the past several weeks. A list of classes participating is in the attachment.

Report Cards

Term 1 report cards will be issued on Friday, November 17 and will be available through the HSD Parent Portal. Please contact the school office if you have any issues accessing the file. If you would like to discuss specifics regarding your child’s learning, please email each teacher directly to schedule a phone call or in-person meeting at a mutually convenient time.

Grade 11 & 12 Career Connection Event – November 22

This is a one day event for grade 11 and 12 students in HSD. The purpose is to introduce them to resources, tools, and organizations that can support their next steps as they start planning for work, post-secondary studies, and life after school. This event is happening at NHS during the regular school day and we are excited at the prospect of practical and authentic support that will help students jumpstart their futures. Students will be receiving more information in the coming weeks.
