Welcome back! We hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable spring break.
Spring is in the air, and while we haven’t seen a lot of greenery and growth in our natural environment, the hallways and classrooms of our school continue to show growth! We are extremely proud of all the learning, growth, and progress all our students and staff continue to show. Continuously monitoring where we are in our learning journey, accepting challenges, learning from mistakes, and progressing is what truly makes us come alive and excited for the things ahead.
The end of March provided a natural break, where we can look back at how far we have come since the last reporting period, and it allows us to set new learning goals leading into springtime to finish the year off strong.
This past month we have been able to slow things down a little in terms of school-based activities, but we kept busy with many other extra-curricular activities that included the wrap up of the various basketball leagues. A huge congratulations goes out to our all our Basketball players and various volunteer coaches!
April is also World Autism Month, an annual opportunity for a dedicated conversation about autism spectrum disorder. Together we continue to thrive making our school and community a safe, respectful, and more inclusive space.
As we head into the spring season, we look forward to many other activities that include a few of the following highlights;
2025-26 Course Selection
Course selection for next year will take place during the month of April. Our school guidance counsellor – Ms. Penner (capenner@hsd.ca) – will arrange grade group presentations in the MPR to explain the selection process and review course requirements and options. Grade specific emails will also be sent to parents with details and deadlines once we are ready to formally begin the course selection process.
Parent Teacher Conferences – Thursday, April 24
We are pleased to invite you to our spring Parent Teacher Conferences on April 24. The evening will run from 4:30 – 7:00 pm.
Please book those appointments on the parent portal. We highly encourage parent engagement at Parent Teacher Conferences. This opportunity fosters stronger collaboration and communication between teachers, parents, and students.
Here are some key advantages:
– Enhanced Communication: These conferences provide a direct line of communication for parents and teachers to discuss a student’s progress, strengths, and areas needing
improvement. This can clear up misunderstandings and ensure that everyone is aligned on expectations and goals.
– Individualized Support: Teachers can offer insights into specific subjects or skills where a student might excel or struggle, allowing parents to support targeted strategies at home or seek additional resources, like tutoring or extracurriculars, to address gaps.
– Academic Goal Setting: Parents, teachers, and students can set academic goals together, helping students stay motivated and accountable. This alignment on goals also reinforces students’ investment in their learning.
– Early Intervention: For students struggling academically, emotionally, or socially, these conferences are an opportunity to spot warning signs early. Parents and teachers can then collaborate on intervention strategies or make referrals for counseling or other support services.
– Community Building: Conferences encourage a sense of community and partnership between families and the school, which can lead to higher student engagement and parental involvement in school activities, both linked to improved academic outcomes.
School Fees
Reminder to pay any outstanding student fees for the year. Online payments can be made by logging onto the HSD Parent Portal, or cheque and cash payments may be made directly at the school office. We would really like to clear up all accounts by the end of June. Thanks so much for your attention to this matter.
